Dissectable Transformer
Safety Warnings
Danger: High Voltage Hazard
Warning: Circuit Verification
Purpose
Demonstrates transformer action using a dissectable iron core and two 250-turn coils. Students see that a light bulb glows at full brightness through electromagnetic induction alone — no direct electrical connection between primary and secondary circuits.
Figure 1:
The complete transformer setup showing the primary coil (right) connected to AC power and the secondary coil (left) powering the light bulb at full brightness through the iron core. The 1:1 turns ratio produces equal voltage in both coils.
Figure 2:
Alternative view showing the modular nature of the dissectable transformer core and the electrical connections between components. The disconnected alligator clips allow demonstration of circuit modifications during the lecture.
