Purpose
A large-format view camera projects an inverted, real image of a carbon filament lamp onto a ground glass screen. Students directly observe image formation by a converging lens and the relationship between object distance, image distance, and focal length.
Figure 1:
The view camera in operational configuration, with bellows extended between the lens board (front standard) and the ground glass focusing screen (rear standard), demonstrating the basic optical path for image formation.
Figure 2:
The ground glass screen on the rear standard shows a focused image of a light source, visible to the class as a bright spot. The frosted glass allows viewing from multiple angles while maintaining image brightness.
Figure 3:
Detailed view of the inverted image of a carbon filament lamp focused on the ground glass screen, clearly demonstrating real image formation by the camera lens.
