Wilberforce Pendulum
Purpose
Demonstrates coupled oscillations and energy transfer between two modes of vibration. Students observe energy periodically transferring between vertical bouncing and torsional twisting when the mode frequencies are matched.

The Wilberforce pendulum suspended from a support rod. The cylindrical bob has adjustable radial masses on a cross-bar for tuning the torsional frequency to match the vertical bounce frequency.
