The apparatus generates pressures up to 80 psi during compression. Ensure all connections are secure and the cylinder is rated for this pressure. Do not attempt to open valves or disconnect components while the system is pressurized.

Purpose

A piston-cylinder apparatus with projected pressure and temperature gauges demonstrates the relationship between pressure, volume, and temperature in a gas. Students observe pressure and temperature rise during compression, cooling at constant volume, and cooling below ambient when the valve is opened — illustrating adiabatic, isochoric, and isobaric processes in sequence.
