Motor-Generator

Ensure all connections are secure before applying power. The 12-volt system is low voltage but can deliver high currents if shorted. Do not touch terminals while the system is powered. Keep hands away from the rotating flywheel.

The heavy bronze flywheel stores significant rotational kinetic energy when spinning at full speed. Keep hands, clothing, and objects away from the rotating flywheel. Ensure the apparatus is securely clamped to prevent tipping.

Purpose

Students observe how a single electromagnetic machine functions as both a motor and a generator, demonstrating the reversibility of electromechanical energy conversion. The demo also illustrates electromagnetic braking via armature shorting (Lenz's law).
