Electrostatic Meters Concept

Demonstrations in Electrostatic Meters

Projection electroscope with built-in lamp and lens (left) and projected image of the electroscope leaf on screen (right)

Projection Electroscope

Demonstrates charge detection and polarity using a projection electroscope visible to the entire lecture hall. Students observe leaf deflection in response to charged objects, illustrating charging by contact, charging by …
Bar electroscope (versorium): lightweight aluminum vane with red and black painted ends, balanced on a clear plastic pivot post on a round black base

Bar Form Electroscope -- Versorium (Gilbert)

Demonstrates charge detection using a pivoting metal vane (versorium). An uncharged vane is attracted to any charged object regardless of polarity; once charged by contact, it distinguishes sign through attraction …
Left: Pasco Model 524C Electrometer (light blue case, two analog meters) with blue padded carrying case. Right: accessories including Faraday ice pail, projection meter, cables, charge probes, wire mesh Faraday cage, and manual.
Safety

Pasco Electrometer

**This instrument has been removed from inventory.** It provided quantitative electrostatic charge and potential measurements, substituting for an electroscope with numerical readout via a projection meter on overhead projector.
